Attemped Abduction in Sussex Boro 3/18/13
State troopers from Sussex Station are warning the public about the report of an attempted abduction in Sussex Boro. Shortly after 8:00 a.m. today, a middle school-aged girl walking on Harrison Street reported that the driver of a pick-up truck attempted to grab her, but she was able to escape. The truck is described as an older model red pick-up with tinted windows and a black cap over the bed. The girl told police that the driver was a white man with a red beard—possibly wearing hunter’s orange jacket and hat—grabbed her by the shoulder, and that a second man with dark hair jumped out of the passenger side as she broke away from the first man and ran to safety.

Troopers distributed this information to all law enforcement in the area and all available patrols saturated the area. At this time, no suspects or vehicles matching this description have been located.

As always, parents should see that children walking to and from school are taking appropriate precautions. Children should be accompanied by adults when possible, or walk in groups. Warn children about staying clear of strangers.

Detectives are working with school and town officials to spread the word of this incident. They continue to interview people to move the investigation forward.
